Documentary Debut in Atlanta
It has been a busy year for One Production Place and I am proud to announce the premier of “Voices of Freedom” at The High Museum of Art in Atlanta.
The documentary, funded by the museum, is included in the High Museum’s exhibit “Road To Freedom: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement 1956-1968”.
For the past year Julian Cox, High Museum curator of photography, and I traveled across the South. We journeyed from Americus, Georgia to Anniston, Alabama to Philadelphia, Mississippi. From Selma to Montgomery, Birmingham to Florence then back to Atlanta and north to upstate New York. At each stop we interviewed Freedom Riders, marchers, activists, SCLC leaders, students, and photographers who covered the Movement and we filmed the locations where key events took place.
Andrew Young, John Lewis, C.T. Vivian, Hank Thomas, Catherine Burks Brooks, Danny Lyon, Charles Moore, Bob Mants, Carol Barner Seay, Doris Derby, Diane Nash and many others all shared their stories and perspective.
The film will be on display at The High Museum here in Atlanta until

October 5th. The exhibit will move to The Smithsonian in November and then to Los Angeles in 2009. If you would like more information about the dates please let me know.
For those of you who live in Atlanta there will be a special showing of the film at the museum on Sunday the 29th of June at 2PM in the Rich Auditorium followed by a question and answer session with Julian and me. Entrance is free to High Museum members, regular admission prices for all others. If you are in town please join me for this.
Some other highlights from the last year:
- Carol Cassidy (www.carolcassidymedia.com) and I put together a series of 16 short pieces for the ACLU to mark the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. We traveled to New Orleans and documented the stories of several people who were victims of the judicial system in the chaos of the hurricane and its aftermath. You can watch them on the ACLU Web site.
- A promotional piece for the State of Georgia Department of Economic Development
- An identity piece for Perfect Image Printing
I hope all of you are doing well and I look forward to working with you and hearing from you soon. I update my Web site regularly with new clips from projects, here is the link.
